Who I Am
I'm Md Maraj, a woodworker and furniture maker based in Bangladesh. I've been working with wood professionally for over 12 years, and I run a furniture business that's been operating for more than seven years now. When I'm not in the workshop, you'll usually find me sketching out a new furniture design or trying to bring an old, forgotten piece back to life.
How I Got Into Woodworking
My journey into woodworking didn't start in a classroom. I grew up around tools — taking things apart, fixing what broke, building things out of whatever materials I could find. That curiosity turned into a real career around 2014, when I started taking on woodworking and furniture work professionally, and by 2019 I had my own furniture business running.
I still remember one of my early paid projects — a simple dining table for a neighbor. I got the joinery wrong on the first attempt and had to rebuild the entire frame just two days before delivery. That mistake taught me more about wood movement and proper joinery than any book ever could, and it's stuck with me ever since.
What I Know
Over these 12+ years I've worked across most areas of woodworking: furniture making, joinery, hardwood selection, surface preparation, staining and finishing, outdoor wood, material selection, and everyday workshop tools. I'm hands-on with saws, routers, sanders, stains, sealers, and topcoats, and I've worked extensively with plywood, hardwood, and MDF. I also completed formal studies in interior design, but most of what I know came from years of real work — and real mistakes — in the shop. Over the years, I've built and sold 247 furniture pieces.
What I don't cover: structural engineering and large-scale industrial production. My focus is practical woodworking for hobbyists, DIY builders, and small furniture makers — not commercial manufacturing.
The Gap I Saw
When I was starting out, I spent hours searching for real, honest project walkthroughs — and mostly found either generic tips recycled from other blogs, or content clearly built to sell tools rather than teach the craft. What was missing was someone showing the whole process: the real cost, the real time it took, and the mistakes made along the way.
That's the same gap I still see today, and it's the reason I built Woodworking Cove.
My Mission
Every project I publish here will be based on real, hands-on work. I'll show the full process, not just the polished final result — what worked, what went wrong, how much it cost, how long it took, and what I'd do differently next time. If I haven't built or tested something myself, I won't present it as personal experience.
What You'll Find Here
Woodworking Cove is for hobbyists and beginner-to-intermediate woodworkers, especially DIY builders who want practical, project-based guidance. Here's what I'll be publishing:
Beginner woodworking projects, furniture build guides, joinery and technique breakdowns, wood finishing tips, material selection guides, workshop safety advice, tool usage guidance, and real project cost breakdowns.
I'm aiming to publish at least one new guide every week, so there's always something fresh to build from.
Let's Build Something
If you're ready to start building instead of just reading about woodworking, subscribe below to get new guides straight to your inbox as soon as they go live — I'm publishing at least one a week. Have a question about a project, technique, material, or tool? Drop it in the comments or email me directly at [email protected] — I read and reply to every message myself.
Let's keep building, learning, and improving — one project at a time.
